Gossip has always been one of the most thought provoking punk bands that you could still dance to: blues-infused, beat driven, rock and roll with a catchy electronic slant, and a real depth coming from singer Beth Ditto. Ditto’s been involved in make-up, acting, and fashion, but keeps bringing her voice and mind back to Gossip. The band started as transplants from the Midwest to the Pacific Northwest, served time on the greats: K Records, Kill Rock Stars, Dim Mak and finally landed on their feet at Columbia with this year’s A Joyful Noise. Ditto’s got as many crazy vocal tricks as she does amazing outfits, darting from a gospel sound to an electronic yell with no problem. Their most recent album combines the best of their punk past with the “Moving In The Right Direction” pop-diva vibes that promise to keep the band’s sound progressing.
